The best Fashion blogs out there

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I know there are a lot of popular fashion blogs out there, but few are really enjoyable and not for teens. One of the most special is www.smagglestyle.com, written by the fantastic Lady Smaggle. Here is a woman that loves fashion, and has a lot of courage to wear just about whatever she feels like. I love it because she’s a normal person who loves herself and is completely devoted to her blog. It makes you want to be like her, and she definitely is a fun and inspiring role model.

The second great blog I follow is http://styleobserver.com. It’s completely different from Smagglestyle, but not less fabulous. Jean Vouté Pratt, the writer of this blog, shares her observations on style, which are all about not being a fashion victim and looking classy while keeping up with trends in a moderate way. It is more in sync with what my blog is all about, but she’s a bit less concerned with the budget :) .

Enjoy!

Special Occasion…?

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Wedding invitation arrives, and again, you are wondering which of the dresses you had before you got pregnant will still fit. My answer for this is very simple- none, hope you’re luckier. But instead of getting depressed by this, I just keep telling myself the old ones are out of style anyway…a bit pathetic? maybe, but it works.

Ok, so I went shopping for a dress that I could feel comfortable in at my friend’s wedding, and came back with some insights to share about this season’s trends:

1. Long dresses are back. I love them, they are so elegant. However, if your best asset is your legs, it’s a waste to wear a long dress and cover them up.

2. A-line dresses and empire dresses are totally in. These work great if you want to show off your legs, and the cleavage is totally up to you, there are so many styles out there!!!

I ended up buying this trapeze dress by BCBG MAx Azria:

Bikini time

The magazines are all full of articles on “how to get thin at the last minute”, just before the summer catches you with all the extra fat…I couldn’t care less about dieting, it’s just picking a bathing suit that’s interesting to me. Especially this year, as there are plenty of retro designs that can actually look nice on real women…

More good news is, that you don’t really have to spend $200 on a swimsuit (unless you want to, which is also cool-we don’t condemn shopping in any form in this blog). I found options I would (and probably will) wear under different budgets:

1. This expensive, gorgeous bikini by Betsey Johnson, almost $200 all together:

2. Old Navy’s Mix and Match collection has lot to offer for around $20 for a complete set. This is my favorite match:

3. If you have a belly you don’t want to show off- go for a sexy one-piece suit, $29.50 at Old Navy:

When Tees are not a fashion crime…

Extremely chic and cool tee from Urban Outfitters

Tee-shirts are so comfy we sometimes forget it’s really difficult to look great in them. Anyhow, if you have decided to wear a tee-shirt, wear a chic one. As always, here I’m showing what I would wear:

Urban outfitters have a great selection. I love this one!!!

What to wear it with? black pants or leggings (if you have the right body shape and size for that!!!) and of course, jeans, jean skirt, etc. I would also try a brown full skirt with the tee tucked in and a wide brown belt on top…could be interesting
